12 Volt Installation Technician

Job Description:

Vehicle Tracking Solutions, a national telematics service provider, is in search of a full time installation technician to join our field operations team to work in, and around, the NJ and CT area. With a state of the art corporate office in Commack, NY, VTS has been “Driving Productivity” in the GPS fleet tracking industry for over 14 years.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have a minimum of one year of verifiable employment history in 12V automotive electronics installations. Qualified candidates must be highly self-motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills. All VTS field technicians provide exceptional customer service to our customers while producing top quality installations on a regular basis. Professional installation experience with car alarms, remote starting systems, sensors, audio/video systems, in-dash navigation, GPS, and dash camera’s is preferred.

Requirements:

  • One year verifiable 12V installation experience and/or current MECP certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • A thorough knowledge of electronic components such as automotive SPDT relays, silicon diodes, resistors, and switches is required even if the application of them in aftermarket installations is not yet second nature.
  • Knowledge of taking voltage (AC and DC), low current (< 10a), resistance and continuity measurements on vehicle electrical systems and aftermarket mobile electronics equipment with a digital multimeter (DMM) and what the expected normal results should be.
  • Knowledge and understanding of series and parallel wiring practices and load calculations.
  • General knowledge of the Global Positioning System (GPS) operation and how common devices that receive a GPS signal operate in an in-vehicle application.
  • Skills to disassemble vehicle interiors without damaging the vehicle or the interior components or where to locate information if disassembly procedure is unknown or not evident.
  • Must provide your own tools.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with clean history.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to get to and from appointments.
  • Willing to work weekends, shift overtime and occasional overnight/multi-day stays for out of state travel may be required.
