[SAFETY] It’s the Most Dangerous Time of the Year

With the end of the year upon us, it is easy to fall prey to the holiday rush. Did you know that your chance of getting into an accident increases when there are more cars on the road and when the weather turns for the worse? With people traveling to celebrate the new year with loved ones, everyone seems to be in a hurry to get somewhere. Here’s what you can do to get to where you’re going safely this holiday season:

  • Avoid traveling during rush hour, especially the day before a holiday.
  • Practice defensive driving. Drivers on the road might be intoxicated, so it is best to keep a lookout to prevent an accident.
  • If you’ve been drinking, hand your keys over to someone who you trust. Don’t take any chances, especially during this time of year. Plan and coordinate who will be driving to and from an event.
  • The nights are the longest at this part of the year. Plan to be driving in the dark by checking to make sure your high beams and headlights are working.
  • If you’re feeling tired, don’t drive. Plan to stay at a friend or family member’s house.
  • If the weather is bad, go slow. Check your windshield wipers, make sure you have a windshield scraper for snow and try to avoid any patches of ice. If you start to skid, turn your wheel in the direction opposite of the movement of the car.

Remember: the holiday season is a time for celebration, but it also a time to use caution when traveling.
